How much work it will take to get a decent rank for my translation website?

It takes a LOT of work to get your translation website to the first pages of Google.

The main steps in this process are:

1) Creating useful content related to translation
This will help Google and other search engines to properly classify your website as a translation-related website

2) Specializing
It is hundreds of times more difficult to get a good rank for a website related to “Spanish translation” than it is for a website related to “Lithuanian translation”. Niche languages face much less competition than languages such as Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Russian. Yes, we understand that you will not change your specialties just because of that. But, you can still use this approach by adding some extra level of specialization. For instance, instead of a website about “generic Spanish translation” you may want to create a website about “Medical Spanish Translation in New York”. The “medical” and “New York” components of your website would result in a better defined niche and much higher chances of achieving great ranks in shorter time.

3) Creating a link area
A link area will keep your links organized and it will also help you attract other translators looking for links.

4) Registering with directories
Proz, Yahoo.com, Translationleague.com are just some of the options. They cost money but will get you in the game in no time.

5) Considering a professional link management software
IBP (Internet Business Promoter) from Alexa is one of the best software out there. They have a shareware version that you may want to try before buying.

6) Considering a professional SEO (Search Engine Optimization) service
Almost all SEO work is provided in India and Philippines. Some American companies act as the middle man connecting customers and the actual work providers in these two countries.

7) Being patient
Getting a website to the first pages of Google does not happen overnight. Remember that several companies have been investing a lot in SEO for several years now. To displace these companies you will need a unique content, a well selected niche, and an effort that may take years of continued work.
